The year 2016 marks the 125th anniversary of the Madrid System.

On November 15, 2016, the “Brands and the Madrid International Trademark System - Commemorating the 125th Anniversary of the Madrid System” (the event), which is jointly organised by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), is held in Qingdao, China.

The event aims to promote the significance of the Madrid System in supporting international brand development and fueling economic growth. A total of 200 attendees include over 40 delegates from WIPO, international organisations, NGOs, and IP offices in 27 nations and regions of China, German, the United States, Japan, etcetera, and another 160 from the SAIC, provincial and municipal AIC or market supervision departments, as well as business circle.

WAN HUI DA Senior Partner Dr. Huang Hui speaks on behalf of the International Trademark Association on the connection between the association and the Madrid System as well as the conveniences brought by the System to the association’s membership.

On November 29, 2016, the China Trademark Office convenes the “2016 Symposium on the Development of Madrid Trademark International Registration” (the Symposium) in Hefei, Anhui. The Symposium attracts about 145 attendees. WAN HUI DA Trademark Counsel Ms. Li Jianping gives a presentation featuring “Choosing the suitable registration route to facilitate overseas trademark deployment”.
