12th BFSU - WANHUIDA IP Moot Court Competition Held in Beijing

From 25th to 26th May, 2019, the 12th “BFSU - WANHUIDA Cup” Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition (Moot Court Competition), which is jointly organised by the Law School of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and Wanhuida Intellectual Property, is held at the BFSU campus.

The Moot Court Competition attracts 12 competing teams from University of Toledo of the United States, Soochow University of Taiwan, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPSL), East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPSL), Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL), Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing Normal University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Fudan University, China Foreign Affairs University, Changchun University of Science and Technology, and the BFSU.

On Saturday May 25th, the opening ceremony of the Moot Court Competition is held. The ceremony is hosted by Professor Wan Meng of the BFSU Law School. Professor Jia Dezhong, BFSU Vice President, Ms. Song Yushui, Vice President and Deputy Chief Judge of Beijing Intellectual Property Court, Dr. S. Sam Li, Senior Partner of Wanhuida address the opening ceremony.

The competing teams debate about issues concerning patent equivalent infringement and the doctrine of estoppel, which requires comparison of technical features thus is highly technical. The BFSU team wins the championship, the CUPSL team the runner-up, and the ECUPSL and Beijing University of Chemical Technology tie for the second runner-up.

On Sunday May 26th, Wanhuida Senior Partner Johnson Li presents awards to the representatives of the winning teams at the closing ceremony.

The BFSU - WANHUIDA IP Moot Court Competition is the only English competition that strictly abides by the rules for international moot court and focuses on international intellectual property laws in China. Wanhuida has been its co-organiser since its first competition in 2008.
