Wanhuida Peksung Senior Partner Attends 9th IP Seminar in Hong Kong

The 9th IP Seminar, which is jointly organised by the United States-China Intellectual Property Institute Inc. (USCIPI), Asia Innovation and IP Society Limited (AIIPS) and Centre for Financial Regulation and Economic Development (CFRED), Faculty of Law, CUHK, is held at The Chinese University of Hong Kong - Graduate Law Centre from August 4 – 5, 2017.


The Seminar, themed on "Global Competitiveness and Business Value Through Innovation", is tailored to focus on strategies to increase the value of and safeguard IP portfolio through innovation and enhanced protection techniques.


The Seminar features panels including "IP Law Updates", "IP Valuation and Commercialization", "IP Creation and Commercialization", "Patent Financing", "New Ways of IP Commercialization", "IP Dispute Resolution", "IP Issues in E-Commerce", "Trademark and Geographical Indication" as well as "Business IP and Global Competitiveness in Asia".


The "Trademark and Geographical Indication" panel, which is held on August 5, features speech on the following subject:


"Clash of the Old and the New World of Wine in China - A Case Study of Competition, Innovation and Prosecco" by Dr. Danny FRIEDMANN - Founder & Editor of IP Dragon; Independent Researcher/Lecturer of Intellectual Property Law

"Have You Trademarked Your Chinese Name? Trademark Protection for Chinese Translation of Foreign Marks in China" by Prof. Jyh-An LEE – Associate Professor and Director of CFRED, Faculty of Law, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

"Protection of Unregistered Trademarks against Hostile Pre-Emptive Registrations – From Chinese and Comparative Perspectives" by Dr. Hong LOU – Partner of Sincere Partners & Attorneys (Shenzhen); Council Member of Hong Kong Institute of Patent Practitioners Limited.


The panel is moderated by Mr. Johnson LAM – Director of AIIPS; Director of Origin Business Consultancy Co. Ltd. Wanhuida Peksung Senior Partner Dr. Huang Hui discusses various issues with the panelists including the historical background for the pre-emptive applications filed in bad faith in China and the pros and cons of the Chinese trademark registration system during the panel discussion.
