11th BFSU - WAN HUI DA IP Moot Court Competition Held in Beijing

From 26th to 27th May, 2018, the 11th “BFSU - WAN HUI DA Cup” Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition (Moot Court Competition), which is jointly organised by the Law School of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and Wanhuida Peksung IP Group, is held at the BFSU campus.

The Moot Court Competition attracts 12 competing teams from Bond University (Australia), University of Toledo (United States), Soochow University (Taiwan), China University of Political Science and Law (CUPSL), Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL), East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPSL), Beijing Institute of Technology, China Foreign Affairs University, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS), Changchun University of Science and Technology, Xiangtan University as well as the BFSU.

On Saturday May 26th, the opening ceremony of the Moot Court Competition is held. The ceremony is hosted by Professor Wan Meng, President of the Academic Board of the BFSU Law School. Mr. Tang Zhaozhi, Associate Director of Copyright Administration Department, State Administration of Radio and Television (National Copyright Administration) and Wanhuida Peksung Senior Partner Dr. Huang Hui address the opening ceremony.

The debate of the competing teams focuses on various legal matters including correlation of copyright and neighboring rights, parameters of originality as well as the concurrence of the Copyright Law and Anti-Unfair Competition Law arising from broadcasting of sports event in China. The BFSU team wins the first place, the CUPSL team the second place and the teams from UCASS and Xiangtan University the third place.

On May 27th, Wanhuida Peksung Senior Partner Dr. S. Sam Li presents awards to the representatives of the winning teams at the closing ceremony.

The BFSU - WAN HUI DA IP Moot Court Competition is the only English competition that strictly abides by the rules for international moot court and focuses on international intellectual property laws in China. Wanhuida Peksung has been its co-organiser since its first competition in 2008.
