Wanhuida has won two trophies at the Managing IP Awards 2021, which were presented in an online ceremony on June 17.

The firm was named Firm of the Year for Trademark Contentious and Firm of the Year for Copyright & Design in China.

The Trademark Contentious award recognizes achievements in administrative, civil and criminal proceedings in trademark and unfair competition cases. Wanhuida has successfully represented companies including Tommy Hilfiger and Qualcomm in administrative litigation.

The firm was also commended for advising New Balance on a trademark action which explored the concept of bad faith registrations, and for assisting L’Oréal in enforcing its trademark rights. It also successfully acted for Hong Kong jewellery retailer Lukfook in a trademark infringement and unfair competition case, obtaining an injunction and substantial damages.

In copyright and design work, Wanhuida has advised companies such as Decathlon, adidas and Fremaux-Delorme on design protection in China and has assisted The Acushnet Company, Night Owl and Michelin in complex disputes involving copyright issues.

It also represented L’Oréal in the successful invalidation of a design right filed by a company dealing in pirated products.
