Wanhuida Partner speaks at USPTO China IP Road Show

On June 15, 2023, the “China IP Road Show in Texas: Strategies for protecting intellectual property in China”, is held in Dallas, Texas.


As part of a series of USPTO’s China IP Road Shows across the state, this program is organized by the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO) Office of Policy and International Affairs in collaboration with the USPTO Texas Regional Office, the U.S. Commercial Service - Dallas-Fort-Worth, and the Dallas Bar Association.


The program offers a forum where experts from the U.S. government, IP attorneys, and local businesspeople share insights in an array of matters including: “What small and medium-sized businesses need to know about protecting all types of IP in China”, “Enforcing IP rights, in both China and the United States, against infringement originating in China”, “U.S. government resources for U.S. companies” as well as “IP and China: The Texas experience”.


Warm welcome remarks are given by Hope Shimabuku, Director, Texas Regional Office, USPTO, David Royce, International Trade Specialist, Dallas-Fort Worth Office of the U.S. Commercial Service and Kirby Drake, Council Member of Dallas Bar Association IP Section.


Michael Mangelson, Principal Counsel and Director for China IP, Office of Policy and International Affairs (OPIA), USPTO prepares the floor on “IP Developments in China: Challenges and Opportunities in a Shifting IP Environment”.


Jason Yao, Partner and Management Committee member of Wanhuida Intellectual Property is invited to speak at the “Securing IP Rights in China” panel and the “Enforcing IP Rights in China” panel. Jason gives the attendees a systematic introduction of the Chinese trademark prosecution and intellectual property enforcement regime and offers practical takeaways on both fronts.


Fellow speakers include Michael Diehl, Senior Attorney, China Team, OPIA, USPTO, Colin Colt, Attorney Advisor, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Andrew Briggs, Assistant U.S. Attorney, Northern District of Texas, Marylauren Ilagan, Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property, OLAPLEX, among others.


This program is hosted by the USPTO’s Global Intellectual Property Academy, a unit of the USPTO’s Office of Policy and International Affairs (OPIA). The office advises the administration and other federal government departments and agencies on domestic and international IP legal and policy issues. It also provides technical assistance and training on IP-related matters to U.S. stakeholders and both U.S. and foreign government officials.
